What you can Expect From an Alexander Lesson

An introductory chat with your Alexander Teacher An informal, open and non-judgmental dialogue with your teacher where you are free to share the main reason(s) that brought you to the session, what you wish to resolve with his or her help…

The ‘Hands-on’ work – Your teacher may invite you to lay down on the Alexander table, and will guide you with voice instructions to let go of tensions that the teacher ‘senses’ with his or her hands …… In other sessions, and depending on the issue you are facing, your teacher may invite you to sit on a chair, walk, stand against a wall, sit at a desk etc,  or perform any of the daily activities that generate stress or tension…

Helping you become aware of your habits – Through the hands-on work and his or her dialogue with you, your teacher will point your attention to those habits you may be unconsciously carrying, and which are at the source of your muscular, mental or emotional tensions. By learning to ’spot’ moments in life where those habits ‘kick-in’, you will gradually be able to break free from them…….

Something to work on in preparation for the next session – At the end of the lesson, your teacher may (or may not) suggest a few simple activities to carry on a regular basis before your next session (if one is planned). This could be to lay down on the floor for 15 minutes (instructions given), or to remember to bend your knees each time you need to pickup something from the floor (to avoid straining your back) and so on.
